Southern Malta, Birżebbuġa
Going far south, some 15 km from the capital Valletta is a town of Birzebbuga (or shorter B`buggia), which is close to Marsaxlokk fishing village and not so far from the main Airport in Malta. The town is built around the small sandy beach called Pretty bay, overlooking the Freeport, one of the major maritime transshipment logistic centres in the Mediterranean.
Among many squares, churches and tourist attractions, nearby Birzebbuga is historical site "Għar Dalam", meaning a dark cave. Għar Dalam Cave is an important site as it was here that the earliest evidence of human presence on Malta was discovered, dating back to the Neolithic Period some 7,400 years ago. B`buggia is very popular among locals and in the summer season the tourists are welcomed in many restaurants and coffee shops around the sea shore. It is easily reachable with the public transportation, from the main bus terminal in Valletta, with the lines no. 80 and 82.
