Ghajn Tuffieha Bay (known also as Riviera), located in the North West part of Malta, has it`s beach between Golden Bay and Gnejna Bay and it is one of the island top 3 “must see” beaches.This sandy beach is only accessible via steep 200 stairs path from the top of the hill, but also by a yacht or boat. Ghajn Tuffieha beach is smaller and more quiet than the Golden Bay, so if you are searching for unspoiled rural atmosphere, you`ll find it here. It`s a perfect choice for young couples or singles, who want to enjoy the sun and the sea in a peaceful, relaxing environment. If you are coming with a family, the crystal clear water is very shallow and you can supervise your kids from a distance.
The surrounding hills are created out of clay slopes and cliffs, so if you want to experience something really adventurous, take a hiking shoes and climb up the hill toward the Gnejna Bay (to the left). The view is remarkable, well known to the photographers and filmmakers around the world. For this location you should plan to spend a whole day around, especially if you want to see the most beautiful sunset from the Ghajn Tuffieha watchtower, situated on the right side of the hill. This location is also known for filming the famous “Troy” movie. In the only seaside café, near the bistro, you shall find shower (paid service) and toilet facilities, as well as a small kiosk where you can rent umbrellas and beach chairs.
Buses run from: the Maltese capital Valletta (42, 44), or if you wish to see the most of the east coast - from its neighboring town Sliema (no.225) and the nearest big town Bugibba (48, 223, 225), on Malta’s north coast.
Lifeguards are on duty 9AM - 6PM. Safety tip: during the late summer season, currents are very strong at this bay, so when you see the safety flag up, be sure that the swimming could be dangerous, even for the best swimmers.
