Probably the most interesting bastioned watchtower in Malta is so called Red Tower, or St.Agatha`s Tower, finished in 1649, as the last build tower on the island. Visible from far away, watchtower is located on the top of a Marfa Ridge, at the northwest end of Malta, overlooking the natural harbour of Mellieha Bay on one side, as well as the incoming water traffic from Comino and Gozo.
Red Tower was the strongest defence point in north of Malta, it was manned by a garrison of 30 men, to withstand a siege of 40 days.
It is open for visitors Monday - Friday 10AM - 4PM, and Saturdays 10AM - 1PM. Tickets are 1.50eur/person.
