Sightseeings - Famous from Malta, Marsalforn
Salt production in Malta and Gozo has a long history, dated back in ancient times, when the salt had a big value and was important trading item between the countries in Mediterranean. There are over 40 locations in Malta and Gozo, where the traditional salt making process has been passed down from generations, but only few still have the production.
Salt pans are very interesting man made rocky platforms, usually square shaped next to each other, allowing seawater to enter the shallow pools and let the water dry, with few phases in between. These salt pans are interesting locations for the travelers, because they are always a part of some secluded seashore, where you can enjoy the spacious flat rocky areas, with not so many people around.
The most interesting ones, beside the beaches, are near Marsalforn in Gozo and on the tip of Delimara Peninsula, in south of Malta. Nowadays, Maltese salt gained the popularity through several brands and you shall find it shelved in the healthy food stores, beside other products from Malta.
